If you want to keep part of your site out of public view you can use the
web protect feature included on most packages. This lets you section
of set directories of your site. You can then setup user names and passwords
for people you want to be able to browse these sectioned off directories.
Using Web Protect
First you must find the Web protect icon within the control panel and click
on it
The following menu will then load.
You will then see the folders/directories that you have created for your site.
To navigate through the folders click on the folder its self. Once you have
found the folder you wish to protect click on the text next to the folder.
The following menu will then load.
You should then fill in the first text box (protected resource name). This
will be the name of the resource you want to protect, for instance if you
want to protect a directory of your family pictures you could type “My family
pictures” so when the user tries to access this protected area they will be
asked to enter a user name and password for “My family pictures”.

Creating a User
You can now create user names and passwords for your users, this is done by
filling in the user name and password boxes, once you have done this you can
click on the Add new user button on the left hand side of the menu. You will
then be told if the user has been successfully added.

Deleting a User
To delete a user click on the user you wish to delete in the active user list
and press the delete user button. You will then be told if the user has been
successfully deleted.
